Hey Kelly,
I like how resorsful you are to think of this I think its a very good idea.
Yeah, it was one of those few times in my life when I had a good idea that worked!
Hi Kelly! Glad to see your Hedgehog family and your blogsite ever growing and changing.
I never thought of using a plastic storage container...adding holes makes a great enviornment (& probably a lot cheaper than official pet cages!)
I wonder if that would work for Jimmy's guinea pig. Not sure how much odor your hogs create, but the pig in an open cage definately makes the room smell like a farm (no kidding). Are you familiar with guinea pig care? They are about the size of a med. rabbit, so kinda on the large size for a "small pet". Do you think a storage container would work well for a pig? I'm gonna show Jimmy your invention and see what he thinks. If nothing else, it would work well for his remaining dwarf hamster.
We like using glass aquariums (with a lid) because it does keep the odor at a minimum, but your idea is better. Ya know, this could be a great item to market/sell, based on odor control and lightweight for easy cleaning. (I have no idea if this already exists, again, for the larger small-animals especially.)
Great site! and excellent pics!
Blessings~

PS: say hi to: M,J,D,B,J,B,E and M & D, too :-)
You would probably have to use a bigger bin, but it these do cut down on the odor. I only change the bedding in my cages once a week, so my uncovered tanks that are at floor level can be a little unsettling to the nose. Alas, this idea was not original, as I got it from a hedgehog forum that I go on. I'm thinking of offering it to my hedgehog buyers.
I don't know if I mentioned how I got the holes in or not, but you I burned them in with a soldering iron. If you don't have one handy, you can also drill them. If you burn the holes in, do it in a well ventilated area, otherwhise you might be a little light-headed, ha ha ha! Thanks for checking out my blog again, and I'm in the process of updating with new pics of the babies, so check back soon!
Kelly
